Bamboo grows very quickly from bud, to shoot, to tree, gaining 80 to 100cm in height each day. New bamboo is mature after four years. In each hectare of bamboo forest, the length of bamboo roots are over 25,000 km. After cutting the mature bamboo, a fresh sprout arises and grows into a new bamboo stalk. Thus the forest renews itself through continuous growth.
There are over 1500 different species of bamboo.
GreenLeaf flooring and plywood products are made from Nan bamboo. Nan’s density, fiber structure, strength, and colour make the highest quality flooring and panels. Mature five year-old Nan bamboo has excellent physical properties, flexural strength and elasticity. It is twice as strong as common timber. The density of bamboo is about 0.789g/cm3, the tensile strength (along the grain) reaches 201.7Mpa and the compressive strength is about 74.2Mpa.
About Environmental Protection
When our human society entered the industrialized era, we started a constant deterioration of the ecological environment. Resource shortages lead to the predatory cutting of forest reserves. More and more people have realized the urgency of ecological protection of our natural resources. The governments of various countries advocate limiting the cutting down of forests as well as maintaining them in a more cost-effective manner. A timber forest requiring fifty to one hundred years for re-growth is unable to meet mankind’s demands. Modern society must find new materials; our development must include protection of the environment and our utilization of natural resources must be sunstainable. The rapid re-growth of bamboo timber fulfills these needs. The use of bamboo allows people to participate in a sustainable future.
